3 Ways to Obtain More Playing Time

One of the most effective ways to increase your playing time on the basketball court involves a 3 step process: asking your coach, making a plan, and committing to it.

  1. Ask Your Coach: Communication is key. Approach your coach with respect and genuine curiosity. Ask specific questions like, "What skills do I need to develop to earn more playing time?" or "How can I better contribute to the team's success?" Coaches appreciate players who are proactive and eager to improve.

  2. Make a Plan: Once you have your coach's feedback, it's time to create a personalized improvement plan. Break down the skills and areas mentioned by your coach into actionable steps. For instance, if your coach suggests improving your defensive skills, your plan might include specific drills, extra practice sessions, or watching game footage to learn from top defenders.

  3. Commit to Your Plan: This is the most important step of all! Consistency and dedication are crucial. Stick to your plan diligently and track your progress. Share your goals and milestones with your coach to show your commitment. This not only keeps you accountable but also demonstrates to your coach that you are serious about improving and contributing to the team.

By following these steps, you can transform your approach to gaining more playing time. It's not just about talent but also about showing initiative, having a strategic plan, and demonstrating unwavering commitment. Remember, coaches value players who are dedicated to their growth and the team's success.
